Medina and Strongsville squared off in a tight, chippy GCC contest on Saturday night at the Hive. After a terrible start and spotting the visitors a 9-point lead to open the game, the Bees (8-4, 2-0) charged back behind offensive spurts from Shannon Wojciak & Elizabeth Stuart along with buckling down on defense, driving to the basket and hitting free throws to hand the Mustangs (6-5, 5-1) their first conference loss of the season.

For the Bees, Sarah McKee showed again that she can do it all by posting a game-high 16 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocked shots. Leora Owings didn’t score but had a major impact on the game thanks to her defensive presence, disruptions and hustle. Kayla Joyner entered the game at crucial times and scored two enormous baskets and grab rebounds.

Stuart posted 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists while Wojciak added 7 and Mylie Roberts & Hailey Tripp each tallied 3 and Aly Dwyer posted 2 points, 4 assists, 3 steals.

Medina shot 13-for-17 from the FT line including 6-of-7 in the 4th quarter compared to 12-for-24 for the visitors, who missed four straight to close the game. The teams will face each other again in 15 days. The Bees next play at Brunswick on January 20.
